How get Honda Van doughnut tire in hole?

I bought a replacement dougnut spare tire for my 2000 Honda Odyssey van that does not quite fit into the hole for the tire. It is the exact size required for the hole. Any ideas on how I can make it slide in better to where it is flat with the floor?
